Gang Clan Mafia creates improvised, live sound. It is a sound collage, landscape, journey and conversation. Video, installation, and
performance actions are used as a visual Transportation Pod.
For Mirror Mantra, GCM takes the unique space of Studio Soto as a starting point to construct an adventure that will unfold over the course of two hours. Gang Clan Mafia is:
Vela Phelan (turntable, knobs, mic, tapes, etc.) and Dirk Adams (found sound, constructed sound, mic, effects) and occasional collaborators.
Vela Phelan was born in St. Domingo, Dominican Rep at hr 15:23:23, and has lived in Venezuela, Mexico, and the US. Vela has exhibited photography, performance art , and assemblages in Boston, New Jersey, Mexico and Colombia. Since 1999 Vela has done experimental sound mixing as Candle Sound Cave,
Magic Chopping Hummingbird (w/Jeff Huckleberry) and Gang Clan Mafia(w/Dirk Adams).
He is currently a member of the Mobius Artists Group.. TEST Performance Art event, co/organizer of Tremor live Art Event and co/founder/executive producer of the Temple of Messages

Dirk Adams creates work in a variety of media including performance, sound, installation and web-art. His sound work takes many shapes including: audio walks, multi-channel work, sound installation, and as a supporting element in his art performances.
Adams played drums in rock bands in Colorado from 1988 until 1998 when he moved to Boston. Gang Clan Mafia is nothing like a rock band.
Adams has exhibited, screened, and performed his work in Boston, New York, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. He is a member of Mobius Artists Group and TEST Performance Art Event.
